The Festival was renamed to perpetuate the memory of Murray John Wood - the Festival's inaugural Musical Director who tragically died in the collapse of the CTV Building during the Christchurch earthquake of February 22nd, 2011.  The Festival's co-founder and venue owner, Hans Schuitman passed away suddenly on September 28th, 2011.  Without them, things will never be the same again.
